The Idea That Set Sail

The Central Susquehanna River Boat Society is a non-profit organization that was established with a specific vision in mind. In 2013, Bob Lagerman, a civic minded citizen of Sunbury, gazed at a sunset from the banks of the Susquehanna River and thought how wonderful it would be for more people from our region and beyond to be able to enjoy this incredible scenery on a boat; a big, beautiful river boat that would provide access to a memorable recreational experience, promote tourism that will enrich our economic development, provide educational programming focused on the wealth of historical knowledge of the area and bring awareness to the environmental impact both on and because of our river.

In essence, a boat that would give people a chance to create a relationship with the Susquehanna River, which is reported to be the oldest river system in the world, dating back to Pangea.

What happened when Bob began sharing his idea for a multifaceted riverboat is what has us where we are today. We, a handful of local, like-minded individuals, have created this non-profit organization to follow Bob’s dream and bring a river boat to Lake Augusta, which is located the confluence of the West and North branches of the Susquehanna River and serves as a boarder to three counties; Snyder, Union and Northumberland. Lake Augusta is the very heart of the greater Susquehanna River Valley.
